Kayla Harrison still has time to trap inter-promotional rival Cris Cyborg ahead of her PFL season debut tomorrow night.
In PFL 3, Kayla Harrison will start her quest for three peats as the PFL lightweight “queen” when she faces Marina Mokhnatkina 6-2. It wasn’t long ago that many fans didn’t think we would see Harrison competing in the PFL again at all after news broke of the UFC and Bellator’s interest in acquiring his services.
If the judoka had signed with the Bellators, there was only one fight that everyone would immediately scream at, namely against the self-proclaimed “damn legend” and the reigning Bellator Women’s Featherweight Champion, Cris “Cyborg” Justino.
Prior to his latest win in Bellator 279 over Arlene Blencowe, Cyborg wore a t-shirt with the phrase “damn legend” attached in large, bold letters.
Wednesday, as Harrison attended his own pre-fight media day scrum, he shared his adaptation of the Cyborg mode setting while also sending a message to his hypothetical rival.
While she’s not trying as hard as Kim Kardashian who channeled her inner Marilyn Monroe at this year’s Met Gala at the expense of 16 pounds, she instead tapped into Randy Orton’s interior in a not-so-subtle response to Cyborg’s self-praise. .
Of course, Harrison was asked about his jersey that reads “Legend Killer,” and here’s the Olympic judoka’s response:
“I don’t know. I just heard a lot of people call themselves ‘damn legends,’ so…” he said sarcastically.
Harrison Claims He Has Agreed To Fight Cyborg In Hawaii
Later in the media scrum, Harrison was asked directly about Cyborg and the comments he made about knowing that Harrison would be re-signing with the PFL.
Harrison found it to be an interesting piece of information provided that he himself did not know. In fact, at one point, he claimed that things were going in the opposite direction leading directly to a fight against Cyborg in Hawaii instead of Blencowe’s rematch.
“I mean, I thought it was funny that he ‘knew’ because I accepted a contract with Bellator to fight him on April 22 in Hawaii, and the PFL matched the offer.
“And nothing negative about the PFL or anything like that. I’ve made it very clear that I want to test myself against the best while they are the best. PFL has the right to match; they do. I am very happy with his contract, I am very happy to be back home, I am excited for the season, I think next year we will do very big things, but my focus, for now, is Marina Mokhnatkina,” said Harison.
Indeed, Harrison will face Marina Mokhnatkina in her season debut tomorrow night on ESPN. And one person who is likely to be listening is the “damn legend” himself, Cris Cyborg.
