ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The Navy track and field team posted a pair of dominating wins at the 2022 Patriot League Outdoor Championships on a cold, rainy weekend at Ingram Field in Annapolis. This is the fourth season in a row the Midshipmen have swept the Outdoor Championships.
For men, it is the ninth outdoor title in the program’s history and eighth in a row. The win was the women’s sixth outdoor championship and fourth in a row.
With two track and field conference titles, the Navy has now won nine Patriot League Championships during the 2021-22 season, tying the most titles in a single season with the 2011-12 and 2017-18 seasons. The track and field/cross-country program completed its own trifecta, winning the Patriot League Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships, Indoor, and Outdoor.
Both the boys and girls entered the final day of the competition in first place. The Navy continues to increase its advantage on both sides. The men’s team won 94 points, while the women’s team got 105.5 points.
The Navy men finished with a tournament record of 333 points for the win, while the Army recorded 239 points for second place. Boston University took third with 82, while Bucknell (66) and Lehigh (61) round out the top five. On the women’s side, the Midshipmen have the second most points in Patriot League history, with 281.50 points, followed by the Army (176) and Boston (129). Bucknell (97.50) and Lehigh (94) round out the top five.
The Navy won 21 of the combined 44 events over the weekend with the men’s team winning 11 events and the women’s team claiming 10 victories. The Midshipmen count a total of 42 All-Patriot League awards.
