SA mom creates designer clothing rentals for kids • Glam Adelaide

It seems that the kids are getting more and more stylish as time goes by. It’s not uncommon these days to see babies and toddlers with brand names and designer clothes. But for many, styling your wardrobe with the latest fashions can seem a bit of a waste.

Children grow up fast. This we know. They are growing at an alarming rate and it seems that we are constantly buying them clothes and they are constantly growing from it. So spending a lot of money on something they will develop in an instant can be hard to justify.

Local mother-of-two, Vanessa Stilwell, realized that there had to be a way to dress kids up nicely, say for a special occasion, without spending a fortune. Thus was born Haute Kids Clothing Hire.

The idea came to Vanessa while she was researching designs to start her own children’s clothing brand and realized how many of the world’s top designers actually have children’s collections but how out of reach for most people.

“I fell in love with the variety of designer children’s clothing available, and decided I had to bring this fashion to everyone,” she says.

Haute Kids’ goal is simple. Vanessa buys, new and original designer items from across Europe and the US and rents them out at lower prices.

Clothing rentals have hit the fashion world in a big way over the last few years, with more and more people choosing to rent an outfit for a single event rather than paying full price for something they only wanted to wear once. Previously devoted to adults, Vanessa has brought the same concept to children’s clothing.

“Fast fashion has a role to play given how quickly children grow out of clothes, and also considering they can engage in messy play on a regular basis,” she said.

“However, for special occasions, photo opportunities, or those times when parents just ‘want something different, the top designers have an amazing range of beautiful children’s clothing that many adults envy and I love how handsome the boys are. boys and girls as they sway. he.”

But it’s not just about saving money, there are lessons to be learned here too. The fast-fashion world is one of the biggest contributors to climate change and with more and more people buying disposable items before throwing them away, the accumulation of clothing in landfills is growing at an exponential rate.

Renting clothes helps fight this vicious cycle and can also be a great introductory lesson for kids about sustainability.

“I also hope to do my part to help sustainable fashion, because garments rented are one fewer garments bought to end up in landfill,” said Vanessa.

“The concept of renting also opens up opportunities to discuss with your little one about sustainable ways to consume fashion, because eco-friendly options should never go out of style!”

Vanessa will launch it website next week with a significant level of 100% original stock with items from brands such as Gucci, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi and Balmain.

SA based businesses will be available across the country with a special last minute delivery option available to Adelaide customers.
